Day 01: It Begins with Jesus

Reading: Acts 1:1-5

We are living in a strange world.

The "old normal" we are so used to has been taken away from us. The "new normal" we eagerly hope for is not even in sight.

When is this thing going to end?

But we are not alone. The early Christians went through their "in between normals" too!

God has revealed Himself in a new way through the death and resurrection of Jesus. The old way of "relating to God" and "doing life" was no longer an option. But the problem is, nobody has any clue what they should do or what's going to happen next.

They have to live by faith. One day at a time.

So, where does the story begin?

Luke, the author of Acts, starts the story by referring us to his "former book" (1:1).

"Former book"?

Scholars believe that it is the Gospel of Luke. Just compare the introduction of Luke (1:1-4) with that of Acts (1:1-2), the connection is obvious.

So, what is this "former book" about? It is about "all that Jesus began to do and to teach." (1:1)

Let’s face it. If you are a Christian, you cannot not begin with Jesus while you are “in between normals.”

Here is the deal. In times of uncertainty, you need something to anchor yourself. In fact, you need more than “something.” You need “someone” to anchor your being, to help you grounded while you find your bearings.

This “someone” is Jesus.

And this Jesus is always with you.

Do you know that the God you believe is not one who sits "out there," in the heavens as if He is unconcern of your predicament? Instead, our God took on the human form, lived His life on earth, and experienced all the testing and suffering just like us.

That's why Jesus can sympathise with you! He understands! We can approach Him to find grace in our time of need. (Hebrews 4:15-16) You are not alone.

Moreover, God has already given us everything we need for life and godliness! (2 Peter 1:3) All that you need to deal with this strange time is already with you! You can do it!

Reflection:

Is Jesus your saviour and Lord? If not, would you like to invite him to come into your life today?

Prayer for today:

Dear God,

Life has been hard and full of unknowns. It has been too long and I can't see when this is going to end. But by faith, I trust that you are in control and you are the one who can help me get through this. Please reveal yourself to me and guide me through this time. Please speak to me as I learn to read the Bible consistently. Make this a special time in my life that I will not regret.

In Jesus' name, Amen.
